April 22, 2023, marks the 53rd year of Earth Day. To recognize this important date, the Town will host its annual Earth Week celebrations! Earth Week activities support a healthy environment, strong local tree canopy, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and a resilient community.

22-Minute Makeover |
On Friday, April 21, 2023, schools and businesses are asked to go outside and clean up around their property for 22 minutes. Please register in advance for free bags and gloves at cleanup@haltonhills.ca. Gloves for clean up events are sponsored by Superior Glove (Acton location). |
Race to Net Zero |
Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Acton Arena and Community Centre, join the Town and Your Green Homes for a free one-day event to learn about actions you can take to reduce carbon emissions! This event raises awareness of real climate solutions, provides and opportunities for residents to get involved, and showcases and local businesses. This event includes:

Used Bike Swap |
Join us for the annual Used Bike Swap, hosted by the Halton Hills Bike It Committee as part of the Race to Net Zero event! Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Acton Arena and Community Centre (415 Queen St., Acton). Take part in a great recycling initiative that gets used bikes and trikes into the hands of those who need them while also raising cash for our local food banks. Donated bikes, trikes and cycling equipment will be accepted by volunteers on April 19, 20, and 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Acton Arena parking lot. Donations will also accepted the morning of the sale (April 22) from 8 to 11 a.m. Prices
All bikes sold as is. Proceeds from all sales will be donated to local foodbanks. |
Tree Planting Event |
Join Credit Valley Conservation on Sunday, April 23, 2023, 9:30 a.m. to noon, for a community tree planting event in Halton Hills. Trees help fight climate change by storing carbon dioxide and providing natural cooling on hot summer days. They also create habitat for local wildlife and add beauty to your community. Community Clean up |
Go outside between April 21 and 28, 2023, to clean the community. Organizations, groups, families, and individuals are invited to form a clean up group or join a group to clean up trails, parks, ravine and anywhere else that needs cleaning. We will even pick up the trash when you are finished! Participants are asked to register so that we do not duplicate or clean up efforts. Register with the Town by emailing cleanup@haltonhills.ca and to receive free bags and gloves. |
Presentation on Supporting Birds |
Join the Town and Credit Valley Conservation for a free presentation on Supporting Birds Through Sustainable Landscaping on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. Learn from local experts about birds that bring colour and birdsong to your property and community and how to keep them safe and healthy. Learn about using native plants to create bird-friendly yards that support local and migratory birds. Get your free tickets through the John Elliott Theatre Box Office. |
New Tree Voucher Pilot Program |
On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, the Town is launching a new Tree Voucher Pilot Program to help grow the Town’s tree canopy by planting a native tree purchased from a local grower during the 2023 growing season with a limit of one per Halton Hill’s property address, maximum 500 vouchers available. Free Compost and Woodchips |
The annual Compost and Woodchip Giveaway, Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Robert C. Austin Operations Centre, 11620 Trafalgar Rd, Georgetown. Don’t forget your shovel and container to take away compost and woodchips. Check back closer to event date for event hours. The Town of Halton Hills and Credit Valley Conservation have developed a Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan for the Hungry Hollow - Delrex Neighbourhood. This plan advances the Town's Climate Change Adaptation Plan and identifies actions to help the community become more environmentally sustainable and resilient to the impacts of climate change.
