• Review and complete our online application
  • Applicants 16 or 17 years of age require parental consent before applying

• At least one applicant must bring all original identification and supporting documents that were used throughout the application process for both parties

• Photocopied identification is not accepted

• You must pay a licence fee of $174 (HST included) at the time of processing 

• Credit card, debit or cash is accepted

Bring valid identification

Two pieces of original identification must be provided for both individuals. Photocopied identification is not acceptable. One of the two pieces of identification must be a birth certificate or valid passport.

• Ontario photo card

• Permanent resident card 

Previously married applicants

If a previous marriage was dissolved or annulled within Canada, one the following documents must be submitted: 

• Original or court certified copy of the Final Decree;

• Original or court certified copy of the Final Judgement;

• Original or court certified copy of the Certificate of Divorce. 

If a divorce was granted outside of Canada, please refer to the "Getting Married" section on the Service Ontario website and the requirements for Out-of-Country divorces.

If you are planning your own ceremony, please visit the Province's Registered marriage officiants page for a list of registered officiants in Ontario.

• During your ceremony:

  • The Marriage Licence will be signed by both applicants, the witnesses and the officiant

  • Part 4 of the licence entitled "Record of Solemnization of Marriage" will be given to you to keep for your records and is not a legal record of your marriage

  • The completed Marriage License should be mailed to the Office of the Registrar in the envelope provided to you. Twelve weeks after the date of your marriage you may apply for your Official Marriage Certificate at any Service Ontario office or at the Service Ontario website.

• After your ceremony:

  • The completed Marriage Licence should be mailed to the Office of the Registrar in the envelope provided to you

  • Twelve weeks after the date of your marriage, you may apply for your Official Marriage Certificate at any Service Ontario office or at the Service Ontario website

• After filling out your online marriage licence application, Service Halton Hills staff will contact you to discuss your licence.

• Use our online booking system to schedule your Civil Ceremony at Town Hall.

• You must pay the following fees when booking through the Town for your Marriage Licence and Civil Ceremony.

  • $174 (HST included) fee for your Marriage Licence

  • $462 (HST included) fee for your Civil Ceremony

• Town staff will follow the ceremony script below. You are given the option to include a ring exchange. 
  The ceremony will be held in the Council Chambers at Town Hall.

  • Halton Hills Civil Ceremony

• The couple may have a maximum of up to 10 guests attend, which must include two witnesses.

• Witnesses must be 16 years of age or older.

• No music will be provided but applicants can play music from a phone or speaker.

Congratulations! You got 'Hitched in the Hills'!

• Once the ceremony is complete, the Officiant will forward the marriage licence to the Province of Ontario to be registered.

• You will be given the Record of Solemnization of Marriage but this is not a legal record of the marriage.

• The Marriage Certificate is the legal record of the marriage and must be ordered through any Service Ontario office or through Service Ontario's website.
