Municipal Elections

Elections Ontario is responsible for maintaining the voters list for eligible individuals voting in provincial, municipal, and school board elections.

If you are a resident, owner or tenant of property in the Town of Halton Hills, a Canadian citizen and 18 years of age, you can vote. 

Voter Registration is an online tool from Elections Ontario that allows eligible Ontario electors to check, update, add or remove their voter information from the voters list. Visit the Voter Registration here.

School Support Designation

In Ontario there are four publicly-funded school systems:

• English Separate (Catholic)
• French Separate (Catholic)
• English Public
• French Public

Whether you own or rent your home, your property is linked to a particular school board – even if you don’t have children or your children aren’t currently attending school. If you don’t make a choice, your support will automatically default to the English-Public school board. 
Homeowners and tenants should review their school support designations, and if needed, update them online through the Municipal Property Tax Corporation’s (MPAC) website here.

You can request a change to your school support designation if:

• You own or lease a property in Ontario, or you’re the spouse of someone who does.
• You direct support to only one school board within your municipality.

Note: If you own or lease multiple properties in the same school board area, all properties must support the same school board.

Additional criteria apply for Catholic and French-language school boards:

• Catholic school boards: 
  • You, your spouse or a joint owner/tenant must be Roman Catholic.
• French-language school boards: 
  • You, your spouse, or a joint owner/tenant must be a Canadian citizen and meet at least one of the following criteria:
    • French is your first language, and you still understand it.
    • You attended a French-language school in Canada.
    • Your child(ren) attend or attended a French-language school in Canada.
• French-language Catholic school boards: 
  • You must meet both the Catholic and French-language school board criteria listed above.

Note: Attending French immersion or French as a second language programs does not qualify.

On February 10, 2025, Report No. ADMIN-2025-002 regarding Alternate Voting Methods for the 2026 Municipal Election received Council approval.

The following voting methods will be used for the 2026 municipal election:

• Online voting (Advance Polling Period only)

• In-person voting with Vote Tabulators (Election Day only)
