The Town is committed to taking environmental and climate stewardship actions that protect and enhance natural assets and biodiversity, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and create a resilient community.
In May 2019, Town Council declared a climate change emergency in Halton Hills. Through adoption of the declaration the Town is committed to taking actions to achieve a net-zero target by 2030 that supports a healthy environment.
Climate change mitigation involves actions that reduce the causes of climate change, such as greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Through mitigation policies, plans and strategies, the Town is focusing on corporate and community-wide actions to reduce or remove GHG emissions that contribute to climate change.
The Town has developed the Low Carbon Transition Strategy, a roadmap that establishes the necessary actions to move Halton Hills towards the goal of becoming a low-carbon community by 2030. The Strategy is a clear, evidence-based pathway for reducing carbon emissions through improvements in homes, transportation, industry, agriculture, and waste. Reducing GHG emissions will protect our environment, reduce air pollution, improve health, and reduce energy costs for residents and businesses.
The Town is transitioning to a low-carbon community by taking energy-reducing actions and raising awareness of how to lower our carbon footprint.
