HALTON HILLS, ON – A new Town-operated space dedicated to local youth services officially opened on October 5. Located at 19 Willow Street North within the Acton Town Hall, this newly renovated youth centre will serve as a hub of activity and a place for youth to gather, socialize, learn, collaborate, innovate, access local services, and grow.
The Acton Youth Centre includes a variety of amenities including a large open space for gathering and activities, outdoor program space, family style kitchen, community rooms, shower, and laundry amenities.
A video was shot during a virtual opening to showcase and celebrate the introduction of the new facility. This virtual experience available on the Town’s website at www.haltonhills.ca/youth highlights all the features that the youth centre has to offer and recognizes those that have made financial contributions towards the space.
“To be able to construct and open this centre, during a pandemic, is a testament to our community’s resilience and strength,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “The Acton Youth Centre has been set up as a one-stop shop for youth that supports and enhances recreational opportunities, mental health, and other services that support youth in navigating community resources. Thank you to the generous donations from the Rotary Club of Acton, Halton Hills Service Club Collaborative and the S.A.W. Memorial Golf Tournament towards the space.”
As part of the Town’s youth services, the municipality operates two youth centres with locations in Acton and Georgetown. Both centres are operated by trained staff in partnership with social service agencies including Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK), ADAPT and Support House. All admissions and programs are provided at no charge and open to youth ages 12 - 24 years old. Youth are encouraged to drop by and enjoy the new Acton Youth Centre.
