I often write about the fantastic volunteers which makes Halton Hills such a great place to live. Case in point: two Fall Fairs, two Terry Fox Runs, Hospital Foundation walk and the hugely successful Craft Beer Festival. The festival sold 5,000 tickets. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the rain did not dampen any enjoyment. The big winner of the day was Food4Kids and a big thank you to the four Georgetown service clubs Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis and Kinsmen.
The Town of Halton Hills initiated the Mature Neighbourhoods Character Study to examine whether the Town’s Zoning By-law is effective in maintaining the character of our mature neighbourhoods,. The study was undertaken in response to increased pressure for large scale home rebuilds that are sometimes referred to as “monster homes”.
The Town will be hosting its first Public Workshop for the Study on Monday, October 3, 2016 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the Helson Gallery at the Halton Hills Cultural Centre (9 Church Street, Georgetown). All are welcome! The Public Workshop will feature a presentation on the Study’s progress and public feedback received to date, as well as a facilitated and interactive group exercise in which you will be able to share your input about how neighbourhood character can be regulated.
If you plan to attend the workshop, please visit haltonhills.ca/neighbourhoodcharacter by Thursday, September 29, 2016 to RSVP.
Halton Hills had an exciting day on September 23rd, His Royal Highness, the Duke of Kent came to the Town to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Lorne Scots, Peel, Dufferin and Halton regiment. Councillors and MPP Ted Arnott were on hand as we unveiled a beautiful monument honouring the Lorne Scots at Remembrance Park. The Duke was extremely gracious as he mingled with many at the ceremony.
Like me, many of you were saddened at the passing of former Mayor Russ Miller. I was fortunate to have served with him during his time as mayor from 1983-1994. He was my mentor and longtime friend. On behalf of the Town, I offer our deepest condolences to Gerry Miller and family members.
Have you checked out the latest jewel in Halton Hills? Kudos to the Norval Community Association for their work in creating the Children’s Garden of the Senses.
