The Helson Gallery virtual school programs provide students with a unique opportunity to view and create art.
Through our interactive presentation, our educators will facilitate the students' experience and exploration of a variety of art works from the Town collection. Your students will be introduced to the elements and principles of art, and apply the critical analysis process to communicate feelings, ideas and understandings.
With an art activity, they will put to use the elements and principals of art to help express feelings and communicate ideas. All projects require basic art materials or recycled/found objects.

The Inspirations Art Program was created to inspire an appreciation for art and art making for those with special needs. By establishing a creative and stimulating environment, we afford participants an opportunity to share, explore, have fun and most importantly, feel pride in themselves.
The program begins with a tour of the Helson Gallery where participants are encouraged to express their personal responses and engage in a dialogue about the artwork on exhibition. Afterwards in the Cultural Centre Studio, they are given a basic watercolour lesson and can enjoy the relaxing experience of experimenting with colour as pigments are applied and flow over one another. While emphasis is on the creative process, the completed piece also instills a sense of accomplishment.
The Inspirations Art Program is designed to not only inspire creativity, but to also promote social and therapeutic wellness while using art as a means of communication and confidence building. By exploring art in a supportive and relaxed environment, this program addresses issues facing this often marginalized segment of our community through a fun and meaningful creative experience. Participants in the Inspirations Art Program experience not only an appreciation for art, but enjoy a stimulating environment that encourages them to engage with each other, explore, learn and create.
Class sizes for the Inspirations Art Program are small (6 to 10 participants) in order to ensure a safe environment and maximize the level of personal attention. The program runs for approximately 1 hour in total and, at this time, is being offered for free.
If your group is looking for an outing and ready to engage in a creative in-person program, please contact the Helson Gallery to book the Inspirations Program.
