Hey Neighbour
By getting to know and appreciate our neighbours, we cultivate a deeper sense of community and foster a meaningful relationship with the place we call home.
The Town is dedicated to cultivating a sense of belonging, safety, and connection among residents. Town staff are focused on strengthening bonds within our communities and are actively working to support neighbour relationships through our Hey Neighbour engagement initiatives, offering resources that encourage organic neighbourhood connections.

Community Socials
Join the Hey Neighbour crew and Town staff to connect with your Halton Hills neighbours and engage with elected officials at the 2026 Community Social events in two of our beautiful Town parks.
Meet us in the park at these drop-in events and connect with us over a morning coffee! Engage with local first responders, check out EMS vehicles with our Touch-a-Truck program, and play large lawn games with your family & friends (Jenga, Connect Four, Bean Bag Toss, and more!). Residents can check out the Town Services Showcase and interact with staff to learn about Town processes, policies, and upcoming initiatives – in a fun, approachable and friendly environment. All are welcome!

Toys in Parks
Our Toys in Parks program is a free, seasonal Hey Neighbour initiative where outdoor cars and trucks are placed in a variety of Town parks across Halton Hills to encourage creative outdoor play and increase community interaction at the park. The goal of the Toys in Parks program is to help promote creative and imaginative play, extend playground and park visits, and to help kids be more active outside at our beautiful Town parks. Thank you for playing with the Toys in Parks toys, then leave the toys at the park for the next child to enjoy!
Look for Toys in Parks toys at 22 parks across Halton Hills!

Play Streets
Play Streets are special short-term road closures that turn your neighbourhood into a safe, car-free zone where residents can connect, play, and have fun together! By transforming the street into a shared public space, our Play Streets program offers a space for residents to get to know their neighbours. Play Streets are part of the Town’s Hey Neighbour initiative and coincides with the great work the Town is doing to deliver free, quality, and accessible active programming. Our Hey Neighbour Team will bring and set up a variety of large outdoor lawn games and equipment for residents to interact with.
*Please note that our Hey Neighbour team is trying to visit as many streets as possible and won’t return to a street that has already experienced a Play Street event. However, if you would like to engage your neighbourhood to plan a Block Party, we would be happy to help—plus we still bring the fun lawn games to you! Check out our Block Party information on this page.

Open Streets
Open Streets brings our Town together to enjoy vehicle-free streets filled with activities, fun and community spirit. Join us as we reimagine our streets as vibrant spaces for everyone to explore, connect and celebrate! Open Streets temporarily close selected streets in Halton Hills, transforming them into lively spaces where people can walk, bike, and engage in various activities. It’s a chance to experience our town in a whole new way, promoting active living, local businesses, and community connections.

Huge shoutout to the Town of Halton Hills for helping us bring our block party vision to life! With their support in closing the street and providing games, we were able to create something really special for the neighbourhood. The energy was incredible — families out, kids playing, neighbours meeting for the first time, and a real sense of community all around.

2026 with be the fourth anniversary of our Rockin on the Ridge Street Party! This is great way to reconnect with existing neighbours, meet new neighbours and bring our community together! The Town helps to make this party easy to execute, and this party is the highlight of the year for our neighbourhood!

We’ve had the pleasure of organizing our neighbourhood gathering through the Town of Halton Hills’ “Hey Neighbour!” program, and I can confidently say it has become one of the highlights of our year. It’s incredible to see how an initiative like this can transform a neighbourhood—getting everyone outside, connecting beyond the usual nod or wave, and truly building a sense of community. Hearing the sounds of kids laughing and playing together—whether it’s organized scavenger hunts throughout the neighbourhood, water balloon toss competitions, or group games like the parachute—really brings the street to life. The Town does an outstanding job providing activities like giant Jenga, Connect 4, and bean bag toss, making it easy for all ages to get involved and have fun.

Through Hey Neighbour, my daughters have had the opportunity not only to organize something fun, but to bring the entire community together in a way that feels both engaging and meaningful. In our first year, we hosted a “Silly Olympics,” where neighbours of all ages joined in relay races—jumping in potato sacks, carrying water with sponges, and more. There were bubbles, chalk art, and even an ice cream truck. In the second year, we focused on creativity, nature, and reusing materials. It was incredible to see people of all ages connecting, laughing, and enjoying time together

Good Neighbour Day
National Good Neighbour Day takes place each year on September 28
There are so many ways to appreciate and honour good neighbours, whether it’s a positive shout-out on social media, an invite in for a cup of tea or dropping off a bouquet of fresh flowers on a neighbour’s doorstep.
Last year we invited Halton Hills residents to show their Good Neighbour Day appreciation to their neighbours by offering “make-and-take” Thank You cards to design and craft to show their appreciation for a good neighbour on the street. Hey Neighbour also hosted a “Draw What You Love About Your Neighbourhood” Post-it Note Art Show at various Town facilities ending with a Hey Neighbour Good Neighbour Day booth at the Georgetown Farmer’s Market on September 27.

Watch this space to see what’s happening for Good Neighbour Day 2026!
