By getting to know and appreciate our neighbours, we cultivate a deeper sense of community and foster a meaningful relationship with the place we call home.
The Town is dedicated to cultivating a sense of belonging, safety, and connection among residents. Town staff are focused on strengthening bonds within our communities and are actively working to support neighbour relationships through our Hey Neighbour engagement initiatives and programs, offering resources that encourage friendly neighbourhood connections.
This September, neighbourhoods across Halton Hills will compete to fill shelves at local food banks.
If your street collects the most food by weight, you’ll win an epic neighbourhood block party featuring food, fun, music, and community spirit.

Toys in Parks
Our Toys in Parks program is a free, seasonal (May to October) Hey Neighbour initiative where outdoor toy cars and trucks are placed in a variety of Town parks across Halton Hills to encourage creative outdoor play and increase community interaction at the park. The goal of the Toys in Parks program is to help promote creative and imaginative play, extend playground and park visits, and to help kids be more active outside at our beautiful Town parks!

Play Streets
Play Streets are special short-term road closures that turn your neighbourhood into a safe, car-free zone where residents can connect, play, and have fun together! By transforming the street into a shared public space for a few hours, our Play Streets program offers a space for all residents, of all ages, to get to know their neighbours.
Play Streets are part of the Town’s Hey Neighbour initiative and emphasizes the great work the Town is doing to deliver free, quality, and accessible active recreation programming. Our Hey Neighbour Team will bring and set up a variety of large outdoor recreation equipment and interactive games for all residents to enjoy! Play Streets are for everyone!
Please note: Our Hey Neighbour Team is excited to visit as many streets as possible, so we’re unable to return to streets that have already hosted a Play Streets event.
But the fun doesn’t have to stop there! If you’d like to bring your neighbours together again, we’d be happy to help you plan a Block Party—and yes, we can still bring along the fun, interactive outdoor games!

Open Streets

You will want to mark your calendars for a great morning filled with fresh air, fun, and community connection as we take to the streets and make room for people, play, and possibility!
Open Streets transform select Town streets into vibrant, vehicle-free spaces filled with fun, activities, and community spirit. Step out, explore, and experience your community like never before!
Walk, bike, play, and connect with neighbours in Downtown Georgetown and Downtown Acton at a variety of community events as our streets come alive with exciting activities and opportunities for all ages to enjoy! Discover local businesses, get active, and celebrate everything that makes our community a great place to live.
Block Parties
Bring your neighbours together for a block party! Neighbourhood Block Parties are a fun and welcoming way for residents of all ages to get to know each other, share interests, celebrate diversity, and build strong community connections.
From games and laughter to long-lasting friendships, Block Parties help create a culture of care, support, and belonging with the neighbours who live on your street.
Good Neighbour Day
National Good Neighbour Day takes place each year on September 28.
There are so many ways to appreciate and honour good neighbours, whether it’s a positive shout-out on social media, an invite in for a cup of tea or dropping off a bouquet of fresh flowers on a neighbour’s doorstep.
Last year we invited Halton Hills residents to show their Good Neighbour Day appreciation to their neighbours by offering “make-and-take” Thank You cards to design and craft to show their appreciation for a good neighbour on the street. Hey Neighbour also hosted a “Draw What You Love About Your Neighbourhood” Post-it Note Art Show at various Town facilities ending with a Hey Neighbour Good Neighbour Day booth at the Georgetown Farmer’s Market on September 27.

Fire Pit Pop-ups
Fire Pit Pop-ups are free, cozy outdoor neighbourhood gatherings hosted by the Town of Halton Hills Hey Neighbour team in local parks on select Sundays during the fall and winter months.
What Happens at a Hey Neighbour Fire Pit Pop-up?
- Community Connection: Part of the town's neighbourhood engagement programming, these fire pit pop-ups invite residents to gather in the park, to sit in bright blue Muskoka chairs around a crackling fire table and connect with friends and neighbours.
- Family Friendly Event: Fire pit pop-ups are casual, drop-in events where families can bundle up and spend time outdoors on a late-fall afternoon or wintry afternoon.
Fire Pit Pop-ups take place on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (weather permitting) between late November and early March.
Community Socials
Whether you're new to the neighbourhood or a long-time local, Community Socials are a great way to engage, play, and connect with Town staff and elected officials on a Saturday morning in one of our Town’s beautiful parks!
These casual 2 hour drop-in events help to connect residents with various Town departments for a chat over a morning coffee and some local treats too!
Engage with local first responders, check out EMS vehicles with our Touch-a-Truck program, and play large lawn games and outdoor recreation equipment (Jenga, Connect Four, Bean Bag Toss, and more!) with your family, friends and neighbours.
Residents can browse the Town Services Showcase and interact with staff to learn about Town processes, policies, and upcoming initiatives in Halton Hills – all in a fun, approachable and friendly environment.
