The Town of Halton Hills maintains public infrastructure, facilities and green spaces to support a safe, accessible and welcoming community. Maintenance Services focus on Town‑owned and Town‑maintained assets and are delivered year‑round based on safety, service standards and available resources.

This page outlines the types of maintenance services provided and how residents can report concerns.

What the Town Maintains

Maintenance Services are responsible for the care and upkeep of Town‑owned or Town‑maintained assets, including:

  • Roads, sidewalks, and municipal parking areas

  • Parks, trails and open spaces

  • Playgrounds, sports fields and park amenities

  • Boulevards and landscaped areas

  • Trees on Town property

  • Stormwater features and drainage infrastructure

  • Municipal facilities and structures

Maintenance responsibilities do not extend to private property unless otherwise required by legislation or agreement.

Green Space Maintenance

Green spaces play an important role in community well‑being, environmental health and neighbourhood character. The Town maintains a wide range of public green spaces across Halton Hills.

What Green Space Maintenance Includes

Green space maintenance may include:

  • Grass cutting in parks, sports fields and boulevards

  • Tree and shrub maintenance on Town property

  • Trail and pathway upkeep

  • Playground and park feature inspections

  • Litter collection and waste removal

  • Seasonal maintenance, such as leaf collection, support in parks

Service levels vary depending on location, usage, season and environmental conditions.

Tree Maintenance

The Town is responsible for maintaining trees located on Town‑owned property, including:

  • Street trees

  • Park and boulevard trees

Tree maintenance focuses on:

  • Public safety

  • Tree health

  • Risk management

Trees located on private property are the responsibility of the property owner.

Seasonal Maintenance

Maintenance activities change throughout the year and may include:

  • Spring clean‑up and inspection

  • Summer grass cutting and landscape care

  • Fall leaf and debris management in parks

  • Winter maintenance coordination with snow and ice control

Weather conditions and service priorities may affect scheduling.

What the Town Does Not Maintain

To help set expectations, the Town does not maintain:

  • Private lawns, gardens or landscaping

  • Ditches on private property

  • Trees located fully on private property

  • Driveways or walkways on private land

Residents are responsible for maintaining their own property in accordance with applicable by‑laws.

Reporting a Maintenance Concern

If you notice an issue related to Town‑maintained infrastructure or green spaces, you can report it through the Town’s reporting tools.

Reported concerns are:

  • Reviewed by staff

  • Prioritized based on safety and impact

  • Scheduled for inspection or maintenance as appropriate

Maintenance Services

Lighting Malfunctions

The Town operates over 6,200 LED street lights as well as approximately 500 pathway and 150 parking lot lights.

Report Lighting Malfunctions
  • Failed lights

  • Cycling lights (lights that turn on and off repeatedly)

  • Lights that are on during daylight hours

  • Leaning or damaged poles

  • Wire over the right-of-way

  • Other safety and community concerns

  • Light trespass issues

If you see a hazard such as exposed wires, a loose street light arm or a motor vehicle accident involving a street or pathway light, please let us know immediately.
