HALTON HILLS, ON – Achieving efficiencies and utilizing talent was the impetus behind the corporate restructuring brought forward by the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer Chris Mills. The reorganization amalgamates the Corporate Services Department and the Fire Department into a new Corporate and Emergency Services Department under the leadership of Jon Rehill, former Fire Chief and Commissioner. The additional responsibilities will see Rehill continue to oversee the fire department though removed from the day-to-day operations, with a new fire chief expected to be in place shortly.
According to Mills, “To some it may seem unconventional to put a Fire Chief in charge of Corporate Services which includes the divisions of finance, human resources, information technology and purchasing, but in reviewing skills sets and experience, it makes a lot of sense to have Jon in this role.”
Rehill joined the Town as the Fire Chief and Commissioner in 2021. He holds a master’s degree in emergency management and business continuity, a diploma in public administration, and several technical fire and business certifications.
“During his time at the Town, Jon has demonstrated a keen interest in budget deliberations, initiating new departmental processes”, said Mills.
“Chief Rehill is an experienced administrator with broad experience. Councillors and I look forward to working with him in this new role,” said Mayor Ann Lawlor.
Jon’s first day as Commissioner of Corporate and Emergency Services is January 19.
As part of the reorganization, two staff members previously serving in acting capacities will assume their roles on a permanent basis with Joey Vandermeer becoming the new Town Treasurer and Amy Tawse the Deputy Treasurer.
