HALTON HILLS, ON – The upcoming Victoria Day holiday on May 19 brings with it a reminder from the Town that family style, low hazard fireworks are prohibited in Halton Hills. The ban includes both the use and sale of these fireworks per the Town’s by-law.
Sparklers are permitted.
The by-law change came about last year following numerous discussions and reports that resulted in the Town following suit of many other municipalities that banned family fireworks.
“The issue of banning fireworks was one that residents were very engaged with,” said Mayor Lawlor. “Ultimately Council chose for reasons of safety, the environment and protection of animals and wildlife, to prohibit family fireworks. Knowing what we know now, I feel this was absolutely the right decision.”
The Town’s fireworks by-law does not prohibit display type fireworks which are typically used at large public events. These types of fireworks require a permit and can only be discharged by a federally approved fireworks technician.
