HALTON HILLS, ON – Earlier this month Joseph Racinsky, MPP joined Mayor Ann Lawlor in recognizing Daisy Radigan as the Provincial Senior of the Year for Halton Hills.
The recent municipal nomination and provincial recognition comes well-earned for Radigan, a longtime Georgetown resident where she raised her family. Beyond her 3 decade career as an elementary teacher, Daisy facilitated Eco Retreats for high schools, instilling a love for nature and ecological stewardship.
The volunteer efforts come naturally for Radigan, informed by her educational background which includes a doctorate in eco-theology.
Radigan was chosen for her contributions to the community which include furthering Indigenous knowledge, participating in the Town's climate stewardship and green initiatives and membership in GASP (Grandmother's Act to Save the Planet) and Halton Hills Climate Action.
Radigan was also recognized earlier this year for her contributions to the Halton Hills Eco Filmfest over the past 10 years.
“Daisy truly exemplifies what a volunteer is all about – giving selflessly,” said Mayor Lawlor. “As well as her environmental stewardship, she has led and inspired by example at our senior centres and through her volunteering with Food for Life.”
“The Provincial Senior of the year award is an incredible way to recognize individuals that have dedicated decades of service to their communities. Daisy Radigan has done exactly that and has been a fierce advocate for issues surrounding climate change and the environment to name just a few.” said Joseph Racinsky, MPP Wellington-Halton Hills.
“For as long as I’ve known Daisy, she’s been a ray of light, bringing hope, energy, and a deep sense of purpose to everything she touches. Her dedication to building a more just, sustainable, and connected community continues to inspire all of us,” said Councillor Chantal Garneau.
