HALTON HILLS, ON – The Helson Gallery in partnership with the Halton Black History Awareness Society is excited to announce the eighth annual Emancipation Art Exhibition, on display until August 31, 2025, in the Helson Gallery.
This year’s juried exhibition presents compelling artworks that celebrate Black history and the significance of Emancipation. The exhibition honours the voices and creative expressions of artists from the African diaspora, showcasing the richness of Black identity, history, and culture through a wide array of artistic media.
Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, July 19, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. During this event, selected artists will be recognized with awards for works that best reflect and articulate the Black experience. The reception offers a meaningful opportunity for the community to connect with the artists and engage with their stories firsthand.
“We’re honoured to share the creative work of the 23 artists taking part,” said Mayor Lawlor. “Each artist brings their own style and ideas, but together, their work beautifully explores the theme of emancipation,” she continues.
While at the Cultural Centre, be sure to check out the Square Foot Show and Sale in the Upper Sisnett Lobby. Local artists were challenged to work within a 12” x 12” format in this unique exhibition. Enjoy a diverse selection of pieces, each available for purchase at $226 (HST included). Presented in collaboration with the Credit Valley Artisans.
Visit the Lower Sisnett Lobby to explore the exhibition William Band: Watercolours. William Band is a talented artist known for his technical watercolour paintings. After a successful career in commercial art, he returned to his passion for painting, creating stunning works that capture the beauty of various subjects. Don’t miss the opportunity to see these pieces, as all are being offered for sale.
These exhibitions are on view in the Sisnett Lobby until August 17.
The Helson Gallery is located at 9 Church St., Halton Hills and is open Wednesday to Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 – 5 p.m.
