HALTON HILLS, ON – An investment in seniors’ programs run by the Town of Halton Hills was the impetus behind a gathering of Halton Hills Mayor Ann Lawlor, Joseph Racinsky, MPP Wellington-Halton Hills and Dawn Gallagher Murphy, MPP Newmarket—Aurora.
Recognizing the investment, the Mayor expressed her gratitude, noting “I thank the provincial government for maintaining its mandate for seniors services. Their longstanding funding supports our programs and facilities,” adding, “And I appreciate MPP Racinsky’s advocacy efforts on our seniors’ behalf.”
The Town of Halton Hills owns and operates two Seniors Active Living Centres and runs community programs for seniors at various locations across the Town.
Across Ontario, there are more than 300 seniors’ active living centres that provide recreational, cultural and/or educational programs to keep older adults fit, active and engaged.
MPP Racinsky commented that “As a former member of Halton Hills Council, I have seen firsthand the incredible work that the board and staff do with the resources available to them. I am proud to be a part of a government that supports and invests in our seniors. The over $140,000 investment from the provincial government into Halton Hills’ senior’s services is evidence of that commitment and support. Congratulations to the Town of Halton Hills for securing this funding through the Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility.”
To be eligible, operators must provide remote, in-person or combination of programming. The Town’s successful application yielded the following funding:
MPP Gallager Murphy was also in attendance, recognized for having championed a private members bill in 2024 to declare June as Senior’s Month.
“The passing of my Private Member’s Bill to formally proclaim June as Seniors Month in the province of Ontario is a formal acknowledgement of the contributions that seniors have made in building our communities and this province. I would like to thank the members of Hillsview Seniors Centre who participated in the roundtable discussion regarding this bill. Your input was invaluable. This bill celebrates you.” said Dawn Gallagher Murphy, MPP for Newmarket—Aurora. “I truly appreciate the opportunity to be here today to congratulate Hillsview as a recipient of our government’s funding as this Centre plays a vital role in promoting the well-being of older adults by keeping them active, engaged, and socially connected.”
The Town of Halton Hills, with a population of approximately 64,000, consists of two urban centres, Georgetown and Acton, the Halton Hills Premier Gateway employment area, three hamlets – Glen Williams, Stewarttown and Norval – and several smaller settlements.
