HALTON HILLS, ON – Halton Hills Town Council finalized the 2026 budget following a Budget Committee Meeting and a Special Meeting of Council. The budget reflects a collaborative process focused on keeping property taxes as low as possible while maintaining existing infrastructure, investing in community safety and technology to support security and advance efficiencies.
The result is a 3.56% increase on the Town’s portion of the property tax bill and an anticipated overall increase of 5.11% when the Region budget increase (4.64%)* and education (0%)* components are included.
“I have confidence in this budget and the process that Council followed, which included hours of good debate and discussion,” said Mayor Ann Lawlor. “I note that the clear message during our month-long period of public engagement was the need to keep tax increases to a minimum. For that reason, this is a no frills budget which maintains existing services while reducing our risk exposure and advancing information technology to streamline operations.”
Public engagement figured prominently in developing the 2026 budget and included input via the Town’s web platform letstalkhaltonhills, a Town Hall Budget Meeting and communications with Mayor and Council members.
Under provincial legislation, the Mayor had the authority to veto any of the Council amendments brought forward by Council members at the Budget Committee. The Mayor chose to confirm Councillors’ budget amendments which were approved by Council majority vote.
*Further information on the additional property tax impact will be available after Regional Council finalizes its budget on December 10. The property tax bill paid by Halton Hills residents and businesses is blended, distributing taxes to three levels of government:
(This split is subject to finalization of the Regional budget on December 10.)
