HALTON HILLS, ON – The Halton Hills Fire Department is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) to recognize Fire Prevention Week™ (FPW), October 5-11, 2025. This year’s FPW campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” focuses on educating the public about the importance of safely buying, charging, using and recycling lithium-ion batteries.
Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable, offering large amounts of energy and a long-life span but can also be dangerous if not managed with care.
“There are numerous, everyday items such as laptops and smartphones that use lithium-ion batteries,” said Fire Prevention Officer Jason Blackmere. “There is a real danger for these batteries to overheat, cause fire or even explode if they are not handled properly.”
The Halton Hills Fire Department encourages all residents to embrace the 2025 Fire Prevention Week theme. Fire departments across the country are encouraging homeowners to:
