In his second letter to the Minister of Transportation in as many weeks, Mayor Rick Bonnette advocated strongly for service improvements at the behest of local residents. 'I wrote to the Minister earlier this month and I'm doing it again,' he said. 'Metrolinx is tinkering with the GO Train service and it's simply unacceptable to make changes that so negatively impact Halton Hills residents.'
The Mayor's correspondence speaks to the recent GO Train schedule change that removed the one Kitchener Line express train to Brampton/Mount Pleasant leaving riders no choice but to take the 'milk run' with multiple stops. As a result, commuters have been contacting the Mayor with complaints about excessive travel times, impacts on daycare arrangements and long work days.
'I am hopeful that the Minister will listen,' said the Mayor. 'This is good feedback from the people we all serve – his riders and my residents!'
Mayor Bonnette has wasted no time strongly advocating Metrolinx to act on severe overcrowding on GO trains where Halton Hills commuters are feeling the strain. You can read his first letter to the Minister of Transportation issued immediately after the crisis began: more information is on its way as the Mayor continues to make this issue a priority.

The Honourable Jeff Yurek, MPP Elgin—Middlesex—London Minister of Transportation Ferguson Block Queen's Park 3rd Floor 77 Wellesley St. W Toronto, ON M7A 1Z8
Dear Minister Yurek:
I am writing in response to several communications I have received from residents in regards to concerns about recent changes to the GO Transit service and schedule.
Please know however, that I can certainly appreciate efforts to enhance service and recognize the challenges associated with making changes to a system that is so critical to the people who live and work in the GTA and beyond.
I have been encouraged to share with you, the concerns of many of my community's residents; specifically that recent changes to GO Transit have resulted in overcrowding and concerns for the safety of passengers on the platforms. Your efforts in resolving these issues as soon as possible would be appreciated.
I would be pleased to share information with my community as to changes that may address these concerns.
Rick Bonnette Mayor, Town of Halton Hills
