Message from the Fire Chief & Director of Emergency Services

Fire safety is a shared responsibility that begins long before an emergency occurs.

While Halton Hills Fire & Emergency Services is fully prepared to respond when incidents happen, our greatest impact comes from prevention, education, and preparation. Under Ontario’s Fire Protection and Prevention Act, modern fire services prioritise proactive fire prevention, public education, and community risk reduction alongside emergency response.

Our firefighters and staff conduct inspections, deliver safety programs, maintain equipment and facilities, and continuously train to meet the evolving needs of our community. These efforts help reduce the likelihood of emergencies and ensure we are ready to act when they do occur.

We encourage residents to learn about the services we provide, take steps to improve safety at home and in the workplace, and stay informed about emergency preparedness initiatives throughout the year.

Green light program

We also offer community safety programs, such as the Green Light Program, to support residents who may need additional assistance during an emergency.

Under S.62 (16) of the Highway Traffic Act, flashing green lights are used by firefighters to alert drivers that they are responding to an emergency. While there are no special privileges attached to the use of green lights, drivers are encouraged to yield the right-of-way and/or pull over. These actions support our Halton Hills volunteer firefighters in responding to emergencies; remember, every second counts.

Station Locations

Department Overview

The Halton Hills Fire Department is a municipal emergency service operated by the Town of Halton Hills.

The department comprises full‑time and part‑time firefighters, supported by prevention, training, and administrative staff. Together, they deliver fire and emergency services across urban, rural, and industrial areas of the town.

Service levels, response trends, and operational performance are regularly reviewed to ensure they align with community needs, legislative requirements, and best practices in emergency services.

Training & Professional Standards

Training is a critical component of maintaining safe and effective emergency services.

The department’s Training Division oversees firefighter development throughout their careers, from recruit training to ongoing professional learning. Training programmes are designed to meet recognised provincial and national standards and reflect the specific needs and risks of the Halton Hills community.

This ongoing commitment ensures firefighters have the skills, knowledge, and experience required to respond safely and effectively to a wide range of emergencies.
