Site Alteration Permit

The Town of Halton Hills' Site Alteration By-law No. 2025-0009 regulates activities that change the landscape, such as placing or removing soil, altering land grades, or impacting drainage. The goal is to protect our roads, ditches, stormwater systems, and natural features like wetlands and the Niagara Escarpment.

Why do you need a Site Alteration Permit?

You will have to apply for a Site Alteration Permit if your project involves:

  • Placing or dumping fill

  • Removing topsoil

  • Changing the slope or grade of land

  • Hauling soil within Town boundaries

Permits help ensure:

  • Proper drainage is maintained

  • Natural features like wetlands and the escarpment are protected

  • Fill is clean and safe

  • Erosion and sedimentation are prevented

  • Roads and infrastructure are not damaged

Work Beyond Your Property
