Skating is a fun and engaging activity that promotes balance, coordination, and overall physical fitness for people of all ages. Whether you're learning the basics, enjoying recreational skating, or staying active with family and friends, skating is a great way to build confidence, develop skills, and connect with your community.

Recreational Skating

Traditional ice programs are offered primarily in the fall and winter season, with the exception of Mold-Masters SportsPlex arena in Georgetown that offers year-round ice. Popular programs include public and family skating, shinny, stick and puck, youth skates and more.

Skating Programs

Persons 18 years and older. No hockey sticks or pucks allowed. Figure skaters should register for the figure skating session. During adult skate, no figure skating or hockey skills practice is allowed. CSA approved helmets are highly recommended with chinstraps fastened.

This new program at Acton Arena is for youth of all ages accompanied by an adult on the ice to develop hockey skills. The ratio of youth to guardian is not to exceed 2:1. Parent/guardian must be 18 years of age and older and must remain on the ice. Parent/guardian must be accompanied by a youth. Multiple parents/guardians may attend. Two nets will be provided.

Body contact, game play, slap shots and practice tools i.e. pylons, scrimmages are not permitted. Full equipment is highly recommended for participants under 18. CSA approved helmets and hockey gloves are mandatory for all participants. All participants, including goalies, are subject to payment.  This program is for skills development only and Shinny is not permitted. Please attend our Shinny Programs offered at other times and locations. 

Open to all ages. A parent or guardian 18 years of age or older must accompany children on the ice. Maximum of five participants including one adult. Parent/guardian attending on ice must be accompanied by a child. Free use of skate aids is available at the arena, or bring your own. Strollers are allowed on the ice if the wheels have been cleaned. CSA approved helmets are highly recommended with chinstraps fastened.

For experienced figure skaters. Admission is required for all participants, including coaches.

Skating for children under 6 years who are accompanied by an adult on the ice. Child must wear a helmet. No hockey sticks or pucks allowed. Free use of skate aids is available at the arena, or bring your own. Strollers are allowed on the ice if the wheels have been cleaned.

Open to all ages. Skate aids and strollers not permitted during regular ice season. To use skate aids in fall/winter, please attend a family or parent & tot skate instead. CSA approved helmets are highly recommended with chinstraps fastened. Skate aids and strollers allowed in summer only.

50 years and over. Full hockey equipment, including helmets, must be worn. No body contact or rough play is allowed.  Participants organize a game.

For individuals 18 years and older. Full hockey equipment, including helmets, must be worn. No body contact or rough play is allowed. Participants organize a game.

Children under 6 years who are accompanied by an adult can focus on having fun and developing hockey skills. Adults and preschoolers are permitted to play a stick and puck. For children, full hockey equipment, including a CSA-approved hockey helmet with face mask, is mandatory. For adults, helmets are mandatory, but full equipment is optional. Adults are not permitted to shoot or raise the puck in a manner that may be dangerous to others.

Play a fun pick-up game of shinny by dividing players equally based on skill level. Body contact, rough play and slap shots are NOT permitted. Parent/guardian must be 18 years of age or older and must remain in program area. Goalies are permitted. Full protective hockey equipment is required to be worn at all times by participants including a CSA approved helmet. Game is organized by participants.

Work on puck control and skating skills. Shooting of the puck is not allowed other than for passing drills as no hockey nets will be provided. Ratio of instructor/coach/parent to child is not to exceed 1:2. Parent/guardian must be 18 years of age or older and must remain in the program area. Parent/guardian attending on ice must be accompanied by a child. Full protective hockey equipment is highly recommended to be worn at all times by participants. Free youth skating – no admission fee! Skate aids and strollers are not permitted. CSA-approved helmets are highly recommended with chinstraps fastened.

During the fall and winter season, youth ages 12–24 can skate for free at either Mold-Masters Sports-Plex or Acton Arena! 

  • Before you hit the ice, swing by the Youth Centre to grab your skate pass. It’s quick, easy, and totally free. Heads up: Staff at the rink will be checking for passes - no pass, no skate. Make sure to stop by the Youth Centre first.

Skating Fees

Public, Adult, Family Skating

  • Child/Youth: $2.50 (17 years of age and under)

  • Adult: $4.00

  • Group: $9.50 (Maximum of 5 persons, must include one adult 18+ years, maximum 2 adults)

Shinny, Stick & Puck, Figure Skating Pick-Up, Family Power Play

  • Per Person: $7.50 (prime time $11.00). All coaches & instructors must also pay admission.
  • Parent & Tot: Adult $4.00, child $2.50

Ball Hockey, Inline skating and Inline Shinny:

  • Child/Youth: $2.50
  • Adult: $4.00
  • Group: $9.50 (Maximum of 5 persons and must include one adult 18+ years, maximum 2 adults)

Pickleball

  • Per person: $5.00

Arena Floor Programs

In the off season (Spring & Summer), our arenas will remove portions of ice to allow floor programs to take place on the concrete floors. Some popular programs include inline skating, inline shinny, ball hockey and indoor pickleball.

  • Adults on floor are not to participate but are to monitor.

  • Helmets and wrist guards recommended. 

A fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. For adults 18 yrs or over. Beginners welcome! Please bring your own paddle and water bottle with you (glass prohibited). 

Limited paddles are available to borrow. Regular players are encouraged to purchase and bring their own equipment.

Live Streaming at Arenas

Town of Halton Hills arenas have a live streaming feature from Live Barn. For more information, visit livebarn.com. LiveBarn is a paid subscription service that allows you to watch events Live or On Demand for 30 days. Your subscription allows you to watch streams from any LiveBarn-installed venue across the United States and Canada.

When are events filmed?

The video streaming service is only available for sports organizations that did not choose to opt-out of streaming during their dedicated rental times. The video streaming service will be disabled during public drop-in use of the arenas for programs like parent and child skate, public skating, adult shinny etc.

Sports organizations

Sports organizations were invited to opt-out of the service if they did not wish for their games and practices to be streamed live or available on-demand through LiveBarn. If you have a question about opting out of online streaming, please contact your sports organization.

Outdoor rinks

Outdoor rinks are closed for the season. Please check back for more information in January, 2027. 

Weather permitting, Town staff will construct and maintain natural outdoor ice rinks during the winter season. Locations maintained by the Town of Halton Hills are intended as the primary locations to enjoy recreational outdoor skating during the winter season, but smaller rinks maintained by volunteers may also be available.
