The Town of Halton Hills provides resources and information to support individuals interested in running for municipal office. This page is updated regularly and outlines key requirements, timelines and materials to help candidates prepare for the election process.

Nominations open on May 1, 2026. The last day for candidates to file nomination papers is August 21, 2026, at 2 p.m.

Please email the Clerks Department to make an appointment when you are ready to file your nomination.

Candidates who have questions about Town services and/or operations for campaign purposes that are not on the Town’s website can fill out and submit a Candidate Request for Information form. This process is in place to eliminate duplication, maximize efficient use of staff resources, and ensure that all candidates or potential candidates have access to the same information.

No Requests for Information have been received to date.

A Candidate Information Session was held on April 21st for individuals who are considering running for the role of Mayor, Regional Chair, Local or Regional Councillor in any of the Halton Region municipalities this October. The session provided an overview of the roles and responsibilities of regional and municipal council members including duties, scope, and commitments. Speakers for this event included John Mascarin, Aird & Berlis; and Kelly Linton, Linton Consulting.

The Town of Halton Hills' Use of Corporate Resources during an Election Year Policy (PLCY-2026-001) is a policy to ensure compliance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 by clarifying for candidates, current members of Council and Town staff the legislative requirements relating to campaign finances.
