Crossing Guards

School crossing guards help ensure the safe movement of students and pedestrians at designated crossing locations throughout Halton Hills. This service supports safe travel to and from school by assisting with road crossings during peak times.

About the Service

Crossing guards are stationed at selected intersections near schools to:

Assist pedestrians in crossing the road safely
Help manage traffic flow during school arrival and dismissal times
Support safe routes for students walking to and from school

Crossing guards are present during scheduled times only.

Everyone shares responsibility for safety at school crossings.

Drivers

Slow down in school zones
Follow posted signage and signals
Yield to pedestrians at crossings
Obey directions from crossing guards

Pedestrians & Students

Follow the crossing guard’s instructions
Cross only at designated locations
Stay alert and aware of traffic
Avoid distractions while crossing

Crossing guard locations are based on specific safety criteria and review processes.

The Town may assess traffic, pedestrian use and safety conditions
