Building Permit Application

To apply for a building or demolition permit, you must use the Province of Ontario’s Application to Construct or Demolish form. In support of the application, the applicant must submit design documentation relevant to the proposed work.

Before a permit is issued, Town staff review the submitted plans and documents (such as architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection drawings) to make sure they meet the requirements of the Ontario Building Code. Building permit fees must be paid when you submit your application.

Ontario Building Code

The 2024 Ontario Building Code (O. Reg. 163/24) came into effect on January 1, 2025. Only drawings and documents prepared to meet the current Code will be accepted for review.

Applicable laws & agency approvals

Before a building permit can be issued, your project must comply with all applicable laws identified in the Ontario Building Code. This may require approvals from other agencies, such as conservation authorities. When applying for a building permit, please submit a completed Applicable Law Declaration Form. 

Additional forms & requirements

Depending on your project, you may need to submit additional forms:

• Water Service Sizing Forms – Required to determine the correct water service pipe size for new houses and for additions, alterations, or additional residential units.
• Commitment to General Review Form – Required for all Part 3 building designs.
• Alternative Solution Application Form – Required if your project proposes an alternative solution under the Ontario Building Code.
• Owner’s Authorization Form – Required if someone other than the property owner is submitting the application.

Changes after a permit is issued

If you make changes to approved drawings or documentation after a permit has been issued, you must apply for a Revision Permit and submit a Revision Application Form. All proposed changes must be clearly identified and highlighted on the revised drawings.
