The Town of Halton Hills is proud to support Ontario and Canadian businesses

A message from Mayor Ann Lawlor:  

Last week municipalities received a letter from Ontario Municipal Affairs Minister Rob Flack that outlined expectations of local governments to comply with ‘Buy Ontario’ policies. As a fiercely proud Canadian, I couldn’t agree more. 

The Town of Halton Hills, like any of the other 444 municipalities across the province, have an opportunity to support Ontario and Canadian businesses. This is the time and the opportunity to utilize our purchasing power and support our sovereignty.

Each year, the Town spends millions of dollars to pay for materials to repair and maintain our roads, purchase and/or construct equipment for parks, playgrounds and facilities, and many other supplies necessary to carry out our work.

After speaking with the CAO, I can confirm that the Town’s procurement policy is in line with the ‘Buy Ontario’ directive. In addition, staff are:

• Ensuring all departments are aware of the Buy Ontario directive. 
• Identifying products and services that we can purchase from Ontario (and secondly, Canadian) companies. 
• Researching supply chains (where products come from). 
• Assessing financial risks and opportunities. 

The Town is doing its part to build a more resilient local economy. We stand as one with Team Canada, supporting our workers, our businesses and our communities. During these unsettled and divisive times, Halton Hills is investing our buying power at home.
