Voting

A person is entitled to vote at an election held in a local municipality, if on voting day, they:

• Reside in the local municipality

• Are the owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such owner or tenant  

• Are a Canadian citizen 

• Are at least 18 years old 

• Are not prohibited from voting by law under the prohibitions listed below, or otherwise by law

Owners of multiple properties in the Town of Halton Hills are only able to vote once in the ward of their primary residence. 

The following are prohibited from voting:

• Aperson who is serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution

• Acorporation

• Aperson acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity, except as a voting proxy

• Aperson who was convicted of the corrupt practice described in subsection 90(3)of the Municipal elections Act, 1996, if voting day in the current election is less than five years after voting day in the election in respect of which he or she was convicted

As of August 12, 2026 the deadline to update your information through the Election’s Ontario Register to Vote page has passed. Changes, additions, updates or removals will now be handled by the Town of Halton Hills directly. 

If you are eligible to vote in the 2026 Municipal Election, you can confirm that you are on the voters list and that your information is accurate at vote2026.haltonhills.ca from September 1, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. to Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.

If any changes are required you will need to visit the Service Halton Hills counter located at Town Hall (1 Halton Hills Drive, Halton Hills) during business hours (weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) to complete the necessary form.  

You can also update your information on Election Day, October 26, 2026, at your ward specific voting location, with acceptable identification. 

As of June 1, 2026, the deadline to update your school support designation through the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation website, in time for the election, has passed.

You can still update your school support designation through MPAC. However, to have the change reflected on the voters list for the 2026 Municipal Election, you must submit your request directly to the Town of Halton Hills. 

Please visit vote2026.haltonhills.ca from September 1, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. to Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. to review your school support designation.

In Ontario there are four publicly-funded school systems:

• English Separate (Catholic)
• French Separate (Catholic)
• English Public
• French Public

Whether you own or rent your home, your property is linked to a particular school board – even if you don’t have children or your children aren’t currently attending school. If you don’t make a choice, your support will automatically default to the English-Public school board. 
Homeowners and tenants should review their school support designations, and if needed, update them online through the Municipal Property Tax Corporation’s (MPAC) website.

You can request a change to your school support designation if:

• You own or lease a property in Ontario, or you’re the spouse of someone who does.
• You direct support to only one school board within your municipality.

Note: If you own or lease multiple properties in the same school board area, all properties must support the same school board.

Additional criteria apply for Catholic and French-language school boards:

• Catholic school boards: 
  • You, your spouse or a joint owner/tenant must be Roman Catholic.
• French-language school boards: 
  • You, your spouse, or a joint owner/tenant must be a Canadian citizen and meet at least one of the following criteria:
    • French is your first language, and you still understand it.
    • You attended a French-language school in Canada.
    • Your child(ren) attend or attended a French-language school in Canada.
• French-language Catholic school boards: 
  • You must meet both the Catholic and French-language school board criteria listed above.
    
    

Note: Attending French immersion or French as a second language programs does not qualify.

Voting Online

Online Voting is from Friday, October 9 at 9:00 a.m. until Saturday, October 24 at 11:59 p.m.

To vote online you must first opt-in. Visit Vote2026.haltonhills.ca between Tuesday, September 1 at 9:00 a.m. and Saturday, October 24 at 6:00 p.m. to register. 

Voting In-Person

Election day is Monday, October 26, 2026 from 10:00am until 8:00pm.

• Alternative voting methods where available
• Support for voters with accessibility needs

If you are an eligible Town of Halton Hills elector and unable to vote on Election Day or through online advance voting, you may appoint another eligible elector to vote on your behalf using a voting proxy. 

Appointment of a Proxy

A proxy must be eligible to vote in the Town of Halton Hills and have confirmed that they are on the voters list by visiting vote2026.haltonhills.ca.

A proxy can only act for one person, unless they are proxy voting for a family member; parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, brother, sister or spouse.

Certification

You can obtain an Appointment of Voting Proxy form by visiting the Service Halton Hills counter at Town Hall, 1 Halton Hills Drive, during regular business hours; Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

In order to have the form certified, the voting proxy must attend the Clerk's Office – Service Halton Hills Counter during the above times, with the proxy form containing original signature of the elector making appointment of a voting proxy. The elector being appointed must sign the declaration before the clerk or designate at the Clerk's Office and provide identification for both parties.

Once the form has been certified, the voting proxy will be able to vote as proxy.

Voting Day

As a proxy, you must bring your voting proxy certificate to the voting location in order to exercise an appointment. You will also need to present valid identification.

You must attend a voting location within the Ward that the elector for whom you are voting is designated to vote.

You are also entitled to vote in your own right and must attend a voting location within the Ward that you are designated to vote.
