Nominations accepted May 1 to July 27, 2018
Nominations will be accepted for the offices of:
Mayor (one to be elected at large)
Councillors (Local) (eight to be elected, two in each ward)
Councillors (Regional) (two to be elected – one for Wards 1 & 2, one for Wards 3 & 4)
Regional Chair (nomination forms to be filed with the Region of Halton)
Trustee, Halton District School Board (one to be elected)
Trustee, Halton Catholic District School Board (one to be elected)
Trustee, Conseil scolaire Viamonde (nomination forms to be filed with the City of Hamilton)
Trustee, Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir (nomination forms to be filed with the Town of Oakville)
Nomination forms may be filed at the Town of Halton Hills Clerk’s Office – Service Halton Hills Counter, 1 Halton Hills Drive, from May 1, 2018 to July 26, 2018, during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and on nomination day, July 27, 2018, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The term of elected office will be from December 1, 2018, to November 14, 2022.
Under Section 29(1) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, as amended – A person may be nominated for an office only if, as of the day the person is nominated:
he or she is qualified to hold that office under the Act that creates it; and
he or she is not ineligible under this or any other Act or otherwise prohibited by law to be nominated for or to hold the office.
Nomination and the declaration endorsement forms are currently available on the Town’s website or will be made available as of April 18, 2018 in person at the Clerk’s Office -Service Halton Hills Counter. The following must be provided at the time of submission (as of May 1, 2018):
A completed nomination form;
At least 25 declaration of endorsements (mayor and council candidates only);
A declaration of qualification by the candidate;
The prescribed nomination filing fee payable to the Town of Halton Hills, in the amount of $200 for the office of Mayor, or $100 for all other offices; and
Candidate identification (driver’s licence or other government issued photo identification containing the qualifying address and signature).
A person may not accept contributions for election purposes, or incur expenses, until that person has filed a nomination paper with the Clerk.
