Notice of Adoption - Official Plan Amendment No. 63

TAKE NOTICE that the Council for the Corporation of the Town of Halton Hills has adopted Official Plan Amendment No.63 by passing By-Law No. 2026-0066 on August 10th, 2026 under Section 26 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c, P.13 as amended.

The purpose of Draft Official Plan Amendment 63 is to establish a Protected Major Transit Station Area (PMTSA) in close proximity to the Georgetown GO Station, in accordance with section 16(15) of the Planning Act. Policies for the proposed PMTSA will:

  • Identify a minimum density target (people and jobs per hectare) for the PMTSA;
  • Identify land use designations and permitted uses within the PMTSA; and,
  • Identify minimum densities and maximum height permissions for land uses within the PMTSA.

A Special Meeting of Council, open to the public, was held on April 20th, 2026, at which Town Council considered five oral submissions.

A Statutory Public Meeting was held on June 1, 2026, at which Town Council considered one oral submission and three written submissions with respect to OPA 63. The Town’s review process considered all public agency and public submissions regarding OPA 63.

Approval Authority

Official Plan Amendment No. 63 requires approval from the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing before coming into effect. In accordance with Ontario Regulation 543/06 of the Planning Act, a copy of this Notice, Official Plan Amendment No. 63, and other materials required under Part 7 of the Regulation shall be sent to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing for approval.

Any person or public body will be entitled to receive the Minister’s Notice of Decision of regarding OPA 63, once issued, if a written request to be notified of the decision (including the person’s or public body’s address, fax number or email address) is made to the Town. Legal Notices Required under the Planning Act:

  1. If In accordance with Section 17 (36.1.4) of the Planning Act, there is no appeal with respect to policies adopted to identify a Protected Major Transit Station Area as laid out in the draft Official Plan Amendment 63, except by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
  2. If a person or public body did not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submissions to the Town of Halton Hills before the proposed Official Plan Amendment is adopted, the person or public body may not be added as a participant to the hearing of an appeal before the Ontario Land Tribunal unless, in the opinion of the Tribunal, there are reasonable grounds to add the person or public body as a participant or party.
