Interactive Exhibition and Creative Workshop at the Helson Gallery
HALTON HILLS, ON – The Helson Gallery is excited to present Twisted Wire: The Art of Jim Paterson, on view from September 16 to November 8. This engaging exhibition invites visitors to explore the art of Jim Paterson, whose intricate artworks transform wire into imaginative works of art that tell unique stories and spark curiosity.
Adding an interactive element to the exhibition, several sculptures can be gently turned, revealing new perspectives and bringing different aspects of the artwork to life through motion. Visitors are encouraged to engage with the works and discover the creativity and storytelling woven into each piece.
“Jim Paterson's remarkable wire sculptures demonstrate how creativity can transform everyday materials into extraordinary works of art,” said Mayor Lawlor. “I invite residents and visitors alike to experience this engaging exhibition, meet the artist, and take part in the hands-on workshop opportunities that celebrate imagination, storytelling, and lifelong learning in our community.”
The public is invited to attend the exhibition opening reception on Thursday, September 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Helson Gallery. This special evening is an opportunity to meet Jim Paterson, learn about his artistic process, and gain insight into the inspiration behind his innovative creations.
Visitors can also participate in the Always Imagine Wire Art Workshop with Jim Paterson on Saturday, October 3. Presented in partnership with Halton Hills Public Library, this free, hands-on workshop invites participants of all ages to explore storytelling and creative expression through wire art.
The day begins with a Storytime in the Helson Gallery at 10 a.m., where Jim Paterson will read from his picture book Saturday Morning and invite participants to interact with his sculpture The Storytelling Machine. All ages are welcome to attend.
Following Storytime, participants can join one of two workshop sessions led by Jim and Lynn Paterson
- Workshop 1: 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. (ages 7 to 12)
- Workshop 2: 1 to 3 p.m. (youth and adults, ages 13+)
Advance registration is required and can be completed through the Halton Hills Public Library.
While visiting the Cultural Centre, be sure to explore the Elements exhibition in the Upper and Lower Sisnett Lobby. Experience the beauty and power of the four classical elements, Earth, Water, Air, and Fire through the eyes of the talented artists of Credit Valley Artisans. From richly textured fibre art and expressive paintings to handcrafted pottery, sculpture, and luminous stained glass, each piece explores the natural forces shaping our world.
Presented by Credit Valley Artisans, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering and promoting the visual arts in Halton Hills, this exhibition features artists from its member guilds, Heritage Handweavers and Spinners, Palette and Pencil Plus, Potters and Sculptors, and Stained-Glass Artisans. Many of the works on display are available for purchase, and the exhibition is on view until September 27.
The Helson Gallery is located in the Halton Hills Public Library and Cultural Centre at 9 Church St., Georgetown and is open Wednesday to Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 – 5 pm.
