Youth Program Instructor - Part-time (202643)

Under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator - Youth, this position is responsible for the delivery of quality youth services, programs and initiatives including but not limited to: youth centres, youth drop-in programming, Friday Activity Night program, outreach and civic engagement. 

Accountabilities

  • Develop and deliver high quality youth program including youth centre drop-in activities, food distribution, gym activities and organized programming 
  • Supervise youth and remain actively involved in program at all times
  • Ensure youth are participating in a safe manner and provide any supports or referrals to youth social services when appropriate
  • Incorporate and model positive youth development and tools and relationship building within program delivery 
  • Work collaboratively with all team members to ensure optimal level of service delivery and specifically with local youth servicing agencies including schools to holistically support youth 
  • Actively work to prevent accidents, enforce rulesand educate youth about safe behaviour in program

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Recreation, Child and Youth Worker or related field
  • Strong leadership skills and experience leading groups and working with youth
  • Specialty knowledge or recognized qualifications/certification specific to work with youth including but not limited to; Positive Youth Development (Everyone’s an Asset Builder), ASIST – Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, Behaviour Management Systems 
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C required 
  • Current Police Record Check – Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Ability to problem solve and handle issues in a professional manner 
  • Strong ability to relate and interact with youth aged 12 to 24 including youth with exceptionalities 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication 
  • Ability to ensure a high level of confidentiality is maintained
  • Ability to work in cooperation with others
  • Proven customer service skills and working with the public 
  • Ability to complete physical duties of position including some lifting of equipment for set-up or clean-up of program spaceas required.

Compensation

The rate of pay for the position is $19.89 - $22.60 per hour, up to 22.5 hours per week (flexible as needed).

This part–time position has an irregular work week. Applicants must be available to work scheduled programs as required (Youth program operates predominantly in the afterschool hours between 3:00 to 7:30 p.m. Friday Activity Night program operates on Fridays from 7:30pm-9:00pm).

Location:

Halton Hills Youth Centres - Georgetown and Acton, Town or non-Town facilities and/or outdoor environments.
