The Town of Halton Hills issues Marriage Licenses for people who are getting married in Ontario. They are valid for use only in the Province of Ontario for a period of 90 days from the date of issue. There are no residency or citizenship requirements to obtain a marriage licence in Ontario.

Scheduling an appointment |
After completing the application process a Service Halton Hills staff member will contact you to schedule your appointment. The appointment will take place at the Service Halton Hills counter in Town Hall. Applicants must bring all original identification and supporting documents that were used throughout the application process for both parties. If only one person is present, supporting documents and identification are still required for the absent party. Your appointment will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. |
Supporting documents and acceptable identification |
Two pieces of original identification must be provided for both individuals. Photocopied identification is not acceptable. Any two of the following pieces of identification are accepted, provided at least one contains a current photo and signature:

Divorced applicants |
If a previous marriage was dissolved or annulled within Canada, one the following documents must be submitted:

Official marriage certificate |
On the day of your wedding the Marriage License will have been completed by your officiant and signed by both of you, your witnesses and the officiant. Part 4 of the license entitled "Record of Solemnization of Marriage" is for you to keep for your records and is not a legal record of your marriage. The completed Marriage License should be mailed to the Office of the Registrar in the envelope provided to you. Twelve weeks after the date of your marriage you may apply for your Official Marriage Certificate at any Service Ontario office or at the Service Ontario website. |
Registered wedding officiants |
Currently the Town of Halton Hills does not perform civil marriage services. A list of registered officiants in Ontario can be found under "Registered religious officials" on the Ontario website. |
