HALTON HILLS, ON – The Town of Halton Hills has launched digital card decks for ActiVan and the Halton Hills Public Library with MagnusCards™, a free life-skills app dedicated to removing accessibility barriers for people with cognitive and intellectual disabilities. Card decks are now available through the MagnusCards™ mobile app, available for download through the Apple store and Google Play.
MagnusCards™ is an ever-expanding library with digital guides to popular destinations and activities. Each digital guide or ‘card deck’ combines a proven method of instruction, visual cues and step-by-step instructions. The use of MagnusCards™ provides positive reinforcement and helps guide the user through activities and tasks that might otherwise feel challenging or overwhelming. MagnusCards™ also support experiential learning and can benefit both the user and the caregiver.
“Ensuring Town services and spaces are free of accessibility barriers is essential in building a community that is inclusive for all people,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “Learning how to use some Town services can be stressful and seem unattainable for people with Autism and other cognitive disabilities and MagnusCards™ will help bridge that gap.”
The Town of Halton Hills has launched 10 decks total for ActiVan and the Halton Hills Public Library with five additional card decks anticipated to launch for recreation and parks, a first of its kind on the MagnusCards™ app.
