HALTON HILLS, ON – On Friday, the Town of Halton Hills marked a significant milestone today with the official opening of its first cricket pitch at Trafalgar Sports Park. Members of Council, Town staff, the Halton Hills Cricket Club, and local residents gathered to commemorate the occasion with a ceremonial first pitch and a community demonstration.
The new 22-yard synthetic turf pitch, located between Fields 8 and 9, was developed in close collaboration with the Halton Hills Cricket Club to meet the growing demand for cricket facilities in the community.
“I want to thank the Halton Hills Cricket Club for their vision, passion, and leadership in bringing this project to life,” said Mayor Lawlor. “Their contribution, both in planning and funding, has been instrumental in realizing this milestone.”
Cricket is one of the fastest-growing sports in Canada, and its popularity in Halton Hills has risen steadily in recent years. The Halton Hills Cricket Club has led this momentum locally by developing accessible programming and engaging youth.
The new pitch will support youth programs, recreational play, and community tournaments, and is expected to become a central hub for cricket in the Town. The Halton Hills Cricket Club contributed $11,500 toward the pitch’s construction, reflecting their deep commitment to growing the sport locally.
The celebration featured remarks from Town officials and Council members, as well as a demonstration match hosted by the Halton Hills Cricket Club.
The Town of Halton Hills, with a population of approximately 64,000, consists of two urban centres, Georgetown and Acton, the Halton Hills Premier Gateway employment area, three hamlets – Glen Williams, Stewarttown and Norval – and several smaller settlements.
