HALTON HILLS, ON - The Town of Halton Hills is proud to launch a new ‘Shop Local’ campaign and has partnered with the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Georgetown BIA and Downtown Acton BIA. The initiative includes a new logo to help raise awareness about the importance of shopping at local businesses to support their recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. “It’s more important than ever to try and keep our shopping dollars in the local community,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “Businesses have been hard hit with temporary shutdowns and people are staying housebound for the most part so let’s support them by keeping spending in our own backyard.”
The new ‘Shop Local’ logo is available for download from the Town’s Invest Halton Hills website, along with digital templates that can be used for social media posts. The campaign is representative of a larger Town initiative to support local businesses throughout COVID-19 that, among many other actions, includes the Al Fresco Temporary Outdoor Patio Program; local business feature articles in the Economic Development e-newsletter and promoting “staycations” through the Visit Halton Hills website and Instagram account. Additional initiatives to support the ‘Shop Local’ campaign will be announced soon.
The campaign also aligns with the Chamber of Commerce’s nation-wide 'Canada United' initiative; a movement that encourages people to buy and dine locally, and celebrate and support businesses in their own community. August 28-30 has been earmarked as the ‘Canada United Weekend’.
Mayor Bonnette encourages residents and businesses to consider the impact of spending their dollars in Canada, noting that he attracted international attention in 2009 when he led the opposition to the ‘Buy American Act’. “Today I am asking everyone to think locally and take part in the Canada United movement by shopping local August 28-30,” he said.
