HALTON HILLS, ON – Progress is being made on the long-awaited and much-talked about condominium proposed at the former McGibbon Hotel site located at 69-79 Main Street South and 94-98 Mill Street in downtown Georgetown. Residents may recall that the project was taken over by Amico approximately one year ago.
A staff report will be brought forward to the October 25 meeting of Town Council with recommendations for supporting the proposed changes to the development application. To provide more opportunity for the public to comment, Council will defer discussion on the report until its meeting on November 15. Residents may submit comments by email to clerks@haltonhills.ca in advance of the meeting or register as a delegate by completing an application form on the website at haltonhills.ca.
The application retains many of the original features that were agreed to previously between the Town and the former developer.
“This is a high profile development that has garnered a lot of discussion, so I am pleased that discussion on this item will be held until next month in order to provide more time for the public to consider the report,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “I will say though, that I’m pleased that the developer’s proposal has respected many of the elements that we (the Town) considered important including preservation of the heritage brick façade.”
Salvaging the existing brick façade will be part of the demolition work when the project advances to the next phase of finalizing the detailed design.
