Dear Premier:
The COVID-19 pandemic has been an unprecedented time of on-going learning, swift decision-making and emergency response. Now, with the impacts of the rapidly spread Omicron variant, the need to support lies with all of us in government to assist those that are vulnerable due to recent response measures.
On Monday, January 3, you announced the closing of all fitness centres and indoor dining for restaurants. These business sectors have been affected by these measures multiple times. As a Premier with a business background, I know you are keenly aware of the financial toll these decisions place on businesses who are impacted immediately by lost revenue.
In Halton Hills we have over 100 restaurants and other businesses that fall under the categories impacted by the recent closure decision. Premier, in your January 3 announcement you stated there will be financial relief for these businesses but applications for funding will not open up until later this month. Please understand that these business owners need financial help now from the upper levels of government.
I know that you understand that business owners are frustrated by the restrictions imposed and I assure you, that I have heard first-hand from those impacted in my community. Business owners want certainty that their dreams of owning their business will continue and I ask you for your consideration to expediate the application form for funding.
Like all of us in government you have a lot on your plate, and I do applaud many of your decisions. I hope you will take my letter of requesting immediate financial aid into consideration.
