Halton Hills, ON – Thursday, April 22 marks the 51st anniversary of Earth Day! This year, the Town’s annual celebrations continue to look a little different due to COVID-19 and while we can’t yet gather – there are plenty of ways we can celebrate together while apart.
“There are many ways we can recognize Earth Week and the importance of preserving Halton Hills’ natural assets,” said Mayor Bonnette. “I encourage everyone to visit the Town’s website and learn about our many programs and initiatives to reduce our community carbon footprint and address climate change.”
A new online platform for purchasing trees will be available from April 20 to April 30, 2021. The Town will offer a selection of 10 native tree species for purchase to Halton Hills residents only. Each sapling will come in a 2-3 gallon pot at a cost of $5 each (limit of 5 trees per person). The new online platform will also allow for donations to local food banks.
Residents will select a pickup date between May 3 and May 7, 2021 (barring any Provincial restrictions due to COVID-19) and collect their trees from the Robert C. Austin Operations Centre (11620 Trafalgar Rd., Georgetown) as they have in previous years. Public Health guidelines remain in place during pick up – full details and instructions can be found on the Town’s Earth Week webpage. Trees can be purchased at earthdaytreesale.ca.
Residents can also participate in a variety of Earth Week-themed activities, access resources or learn more about Town initiatives including:
