COVID-19 Mayor’s Message, March 26, 20202020-03-26 12:48:002020-03-26 12:48:00Mayor Rick Bonnette's Monthly Column
There is nothing more topical right now than the subject of the Coronavirus or COVID-19 as it is known. At the last Council meeting, I addressed the community and reiterated the messages that we at the municipality have been sharing with staff and residents.
This is an evolving issue and the number one thing that we can all do is maintain good hygiene – wash hands, use sanitizer, cough or sneeze in your sleeve, avoid shaking hands and practice social distancing. Halton Region's Medical Officer of Health is the local authority and provides the Town regular updates on COVID-19. There is a lot of misinformation circulating so it is important to direct queries to accurate and credible sources such as Halton Region. Information is available at halton.ca.
Contact Halton Region Public Health immediately by calling 311, 905-825-6000 or toll free at 1-866-442-5866 if you have:
- A fever OR cough OR difficulty breathing AND any of the following within 14 days prior to onset of illness:
- Travelled to any impacted area as listed in the Government of Canada travel health notices (external link); or
- Close contact with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19; or
- Close contact with a person with acute respiratory illness who has been to an impacted area (external link).
Halton Public Health will coordinate with local healthcare providers to arrange appropriate testing. Anyone with severe symptoms should seek medical attention by calling 911 and informing them of symptoms and recent travel history to ensure the right infection prevention and control precautions are taken.
Keeping it real.
