The Town is planning to gather data on Halton Hills trees. This data may include a tree inventory to map the Town’s urban street trees as part of an asset management strategy. The Town is also exploring other mapping technologies (such as LIDAR) to be incorporated into our GIS system which will assist in mapping trees community wide.
The Town will integrate the results from all available data sets into a tree management strategy which will include the recommended approach and tools (i.e. education, incentives, regulation etc.) to manage and enhance the Town’s tree resources.
Information from the inventories will be used in the two tree management strategies noted below.
Conservation Halton is looking for landowners interested in planting trees on their properties that have a minimum of 2.5 acres (1 hectare) of open land suitable for tree planting. Visit: Conservation Halton Tree Planting
Private Tree Management Strategy
This strategy will apply to trees on private properties and will be informed by a comprehensive stakeholder process to understand what the community values in a healthy tree canopy and how best to preserve those values in the development of new policy.
