"Plein air" is French for the art of landscape painting out of doors. Pioneered by the French Impressionists it was popularized in Canada by the painters of the Group of Seven. Artists believe that by painting outdoors they are seeing nature in its true colours and plein air paintings are generally marked by a spontaneous feeling as the artist works quickly to capture changing light or weather conditions.
This display of local scenes is the work of Monica Burnside, Kathie Hopkins, Carol Hughes, Sheila Mitchell and Rose Scully. If you are interested in trying your hand at this type of painting, please contact: Sheila Mitchell firstname.lastname@example.org.
