Earth Hour 2

Dust Off Your Bike Rides

Bike It Halton Hills is hosting two leisurely rides aimed at people who haven't been on a bike for a while and who need a nudge to get back on the saddle again. The experienced volunteers leading the ride will take a quick look at the bikes and will have tools on hand to tighten the odd fitting and pump the tires. They will talk about safety tips, proper equipment, and will review the rules of the road. All participants should wear their helmets. The event will be fun and casual and will set off at a leisurely pace.

  • Ride #1: Thursday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. (meet at Gellert parking lot)
  • Ride #2: Tuesday, May 28 at 6:30 p.m. (meet at Acton Arena parking lot north end)

Earth Week

Earth Week Celebrations Results

The Town celebrated the 49th annual Earth Day by hosting its annual Earth Week Celebrations from April 27 to May 4, 2019. Over 5,000 people participated in the activities.

The Community Open House and Sustainability Fair took place on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Georgetown Marketplace. Approximately 53 groups and organizations were in attendance showcasing their good work. Family entertainment was provided by Mountsberg Birds of Prey, Plant Buddies, and Halton Hills Active Easy. Music was provided by Halton Hills' Concert Band and Georgetown Pipe Band. Thank you to all of the participants who made this event a success!

Earth Day at Public Works was held on Saturday, April 27, 2019. Over 900 trees were sold, all 70 cubic yards compost was taken by residents, 950 pounds of food was collected for local food banks, and about $1,400 was donated to local food banks in Georgetown and Acton.

Three clean up events were hosted by the Town. The first event was the 22-Minute Makeover on April 23, 2019 where 100 per cent of Halton Hills schools, local businesses and Town staff cleaned up around their place of work, sidewalks and pathways. New this year was a Guided Nature Walk and community clean up, hosted by Halton/North Peel Naturalists Club. This event attracted 20 people who scoured Hungry Hollow by picking up garbage while learning about nature and walking the trails. The third event was the Community Cleanup hosted on May 4, 2019. Approximately 8 tonnes of waste was collected including enough steel and tires to fill a 3 tonne truck.

If you see an area that needs to be cleaned or graffiti that needs to be removed please email cleanup@haltonhills.ca.
