HALTON HILLS, ON – The Town of Halton Hills’ Helson Gallery is partnering with the Ontario Plein Air Society (OPAS) to host an outdoor painting challenge at Acton’s Prospect Park on Saturday, July 21 from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Artists will have three hours working outdoors to create a painting which can include scenery at the park or nearby locations in downtown Acton. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. at the Boathouse with a fee of $10 (free to members of the OPAS).
Artists may commence painting at 9:30 a.m. and must return to the Boathouse to prepare and exhibit their work no later than 12:30 p.m.
“We are delighted to hold this event in Acton’s gem of a park – it’s a great way to promote the scenic beauty of Halton Hills and provides an excellent opportunity for our local artists to gain exposure for their work,” said Judy Daley, Helson Gallery Curator.
The completed paintings will then be exhibited and $500 in prize monies will be awarded by Steve Wilson, an artist, teacher and member of the Society of Canadian Artists. An awards ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. and paintings will be available for sale after the prizes have been awarded.
The public is welcome to watch the artists at work and attend the ceremony.
The Helson Gallery is located at 9 Church St., Halton Hills and is open Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays: 1 – 5 p.m. and on Thursdays: 1 – 8:30 p.m. Please note, the Gallery and Cultural Centre are closed on Sundays during July and August.
