Halton Hills, ON - Residents are reminded to take caution around local bodies of water and storm water ponds while enjoying the outdoors this winter. Although ice may appear thick enough to venture out on, it may not be. Use extreme caution and advise your children that ice is unsafe for skating or playing and stormwater ponds should be avoided.
The stormwater ponds may look safe, but it's what's below the surface that makes them different from regular ponds. They are functioning drainage infrastructure and, as a result, water flow and water levels can fluctuate quickly without warning.
“Keeping our residents safe is a daily concern but now more than ever as we go into the holiday season with increased COVID-19 restrictions,” said Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. “We invite people to enjoy the outdoors but we want everyone to be aware of the potential hazards.”
Residents are also reminded to adhere to COVID-19 restrictions at skating rinks and along the Town’s trail system along with sharing the road and being aware of snow plows and other outdoor winter equipment.
Residents are asked to refer to the Town’s website for more information on COVID-19 restrictions, holiday closures and safety information.
