The Halton-North Peel Naturalist Club in partnership with Halton Hills Hydro, Credit Valley Conservation Authority, and the Town of Halton Hills is planning to install an osprey tower in the open space beside Fairy Lake.
Osprey platforms provide potential habitat and nesting options for these birds, though there is no guarantee that they will nest here. This work is being done to encourage biodiversity around Fairy Lake. The osprey platform will be installed on Town property adjacent to the lake.
As part of the implementation for this project, the Town will be reducing the amount of maintained turf area through Acton Rotary Park, to limit the amount of maintenance vehicle activity in this area. Pathways through the area will continue to be maintained to allow pedestrian trail access to continue to Elmore Drive. Town staff are also completing removal of dead ash trees and will be planting new trees in fall 2022 through Acton Rotary Park and Prospect Park.
The osprey platform project is being fully funded by the Halton-North Peel Naturalist Club in partnership with Halton Hills Hydro and the work will be carried out in the summer/fall of 2022.
