HALTON HILLS, ON – Although the risk is low, the Town of Halton Hills has decided to cancel programs and close recreation and library facilities so as to minimize the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). This precautionary action aligns with medical direction to practice ‘social distancing’ and avoid large gatherings.
“The Town has been following all recommended procedures per the direction of the Medical Officer of Health and Halton Region’s Public Health Department,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “The decision to close our facilities is consistent with our area municipal partners and supports our efforts to safeguard the community.”
Effective March 14, the following facilities will be closed and all programs will be cancelled until further notice:
Permit and program cancellations will be issued without penalty. Customers that have purchased passes for a specified term (e.g. 30, 90 or 365 days) will have them automatically extended for a term equal to the length of the closures.
Questions regarding registration fees and account status, or other alternative programs during the closures may be directed to the Registration Hotline at 905-873-2600, ext. 2275 or via email to recreation.
Updates will be posted on the Town's website, via the Town’s social media channels (Facebook and Twitter) and the program hotline at 905-873 2600, ext. 2275 every Friday until regular business operations resume.
To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, Town staff has been regularly cleaning and disinfecting all frequently touched surfaces in facilities, providing hand sanitizer throughout facilities and at service counters, and posting signage from the Province of Ontario.
The Town of Halton Hills, with a population of approximately 60,000, consists of two urban centres, Georgetown and Acton, the Halton Hills Premier Gateway employment area, three hamlets – Glen Williams, Stewarttown and Norval – and several smaller settlements. Halton Hills has long been recognized for its natural beauty, active agricultural community, high quality of life and proximity to major centres, including Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto. The Town is ranked as one of the top small communities in Canada by a national magazine.
