The GO Transit network acts as a lifeline to the region and we want to ensure that our service remains available to those who depend on it. Throughout the summer we (Metrolinx) will be completing essential maintenance work across the rail network. Safety is central to our work and ongoing maintenance will ensure community and passenger safety.
Overnight work to align and smooth the tracks will begin west of Georgetown GO Station the week of July 26 and continue down the Kitchener rail corridor through Acton and Rockwood. Approximately 1.5 kms of track can be surfaced every night.
We will do our best to move through each section of the corridor as quickly as possible, however, crews may have to revisit certain areas of the corridor, as required.
Residents are reminded to use caution in all areas under construction and obey the guidance of onsite staff and flag persons. The work will be completed using a high production track surfacing machine, the DynaCAT 09-2X, that integrates the work traditionally performed by two machines – a tamper, which compacts ballast immediately underneath individual rails, and a stabilizer, which pushes down on the rails to set them in proper position. Both activities are necessary to properly surface the tracks.
