Halton Hills, ON – Last week’s Provincial budget announcement that included progress on the Kitchener GO Line expansion was met with enthusiasm by Mayor Rick Bonnette. “I can recall back in 2019 when a Council delegation from Metrolinx told us that this was going to happen by 2024,” he said. “Well, I am very pleased to see that this timeline is being kept. Our Council and all of the Mayors along the Kitchener line have been pushing for this expansion for seven years; this infrastructure improvement will support current and future commuters with enhanced travel options and support the environment.”
Two-way all day GO service from Halton Hills to Toronto will provide better flexibility for residents allowing them to travel all day long with no time restrictions of a return trip. This flexibility allows for off-peak travel which will give people more viable options for their mode of travel to eliminate the need for single-occupancy vehicles.
The trains will run on electrification which results in faster trains, improved service, a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and better air quality.
The Province notes that construction including new tracks and platforms will be staggered over three phases.
