From Oct 23 to 28, 2017, the Town of Halton Hills in collaboration with its sister city Wenjiang, China presented The Wenjiang Festival. This week –long celebration highlighted Wenjiang’s arts, culture and cuisine and incorporated programming from the regional Chinese Canadian community as well as a daylong hockey celebration. Halton Hills welcomed a delegation of over 40 people including government officials, a school delegation, a children’s hockey team and a cultural delegation of dancers, a visual artist and a chef.
The Town of Halton Hills enthusiastically embraced the festival and visitors and all workshops and events were at capacity. More than 1,200 residents enjoyed unique cultural opportunities while countless more took in the fun and friendly hockey games during Georgetown Hockey Heritage’s Day of Hockey. Over 50 volunteers ensured that our Chinese guests were well attended and that festival events ran smoothly.
The festival provided an opportunity for cultural exchange as a way of strengthening the cultural and economic ties between Wenjiang and Halton Hills. The festival was enthusiastically supported by the local business community, and received great coverage in local media. Thank you to all our sponsors, partners, and volunteers whose support made the festival such a success.
