The Town of Halton Hills is developing a Transit Service Strategy - a made-in-Halton Hills
transit solution to meet the current and future mobility needs of the community.
The third Public Open House will be a drop-in session with a formal presentation at 7:00 pm
on the draft Transit Service Strategy that has been developed. Members of the study team
will be available on-site to answer any questions.
The Town of Halton Hills is currently exploring opportunities towards providing a “Made-in-Halton Hills” solution that meets the current and future mobility needs of the community. The strategy will align with the Town’s Strategic Action Plan and build on the existing ActiVan specialized transit service and the Regional GO Train services.
The Town has retained WSP Canada Group Ltd. to develop the Transit Service Strategy which will be completed by Spring 2019.
The key objectives of the Transit Service Strategy are:
Define the Town’s Vision, mission and goals for transit taking in consideration the proposed growth in the community and emerging trends in the transportation industry.
Educate, consult, and engage residents, businesses, and other stakeholders.
Develop strategies for commuter, local, rural and specialized services.
Provide people of all ages and abilities with mobility options.
Provide a transit service that is financially feasible and sustainable.
The Town has set out a timeline for addressing the overall transportation network, including transit, over the next few years and this Transit Service Strategy is a key piece.
The Transit Service Strategy for Halton Hills will be completed between January 2018 and May 2019. The figure below illustrates the key steps and milestones.
ActiVan specialized transportation is an accessible transportation service provided to senior’s age 65+ and persons with physical and cognitive disabilities living within Halton Hills. Registered riders may travel within the municipal boundaries of Halton Hills.
Taxi Scrip / Youth Taxi Scrip programs provide subsidized taxi rides at 60% of the face value. This program is offered through the local taxi companies and is used by registered individuals.
A key component of the transit service strategy is consultation and engagement with members of the public, stakeholders and interested agencies and groups. We want to hear from you and we want your thoughts on the future of transit in Halton Hills.
Within each phase there will be an opportunity for you to provide your input. As these opportunities become available more detailed information will be provided. Phase 1: informing residents, stakeholders, and technical agencies of the intents and purposes of the transit service strategy and gathering preliminary input on community needs and desired outcomes.
To learn more about the context of the transit service strategy, we have consolidated a number of relevant planning documents prepared and adopted by the Town of Halton Hills as well as the Regional Municipality of Halton.
