Question received from Ken Paige, Mayoral Candidate:Your Mayor and CAO received a letter regarding 102 Confederation. In it are the following: Response from Town Staff:The Town did not refuse the applications. At the time the applications were appealed, the Town was waiting for a third submission from the applicant responding to the issues previously identified by staff and agencies as well as comments provided by residents. The Planning Act allows a proponent to appeal applications directly to the Ontario Land Tribunal if Council has not made a decision within prescribed timeframes, which in this case was 120 days from the receipt of the complete application. The applicant chose to exercise their appeal rights before Council rendered a decision.
Question received from Matt Kindbom, Candidate for Ward 2 Local Councillor:Just asking for clarification regarding new no parking signs that just went up on Mountain Street in Glen Williams. People who attended St. Albans church often parked on the south side of the Mountain street coming down to main street. The Town individuals who installed the sign believed it only applied to "no parking" on the hill. However the sign is placed on the top of the hill with double arrows. This would suggest that there is no parking on the entire length of the south side of mountain street. If this is the case, what is the rationale behind it? Response from Town Staff:Staff verified yesterday the installation of the new “No Parking” zones on both sides of Mountain Street between Tweedle Street and Main Street. The purpose of the new “No Parking” zones, installed on September 26, 2022, is to ensure a minimum 6.0 m pavement width on Mountain Street. The minimum road width is required for two-way traffic on a Local classification road. The primary challenges with the on-street parking on the south side of Mountain Street include the curve east of Twiddle Street and encroachment of parked vehicles onto the pavement. The curve east of Twiddle Street restricts visibility for the eastbound direction traffic. The vehicles that park on the south side of Mountain Street may force the eastbound direction traffic into the opposing travel lane, causing an approach (head-on) collision.
Question received from resident to Jane Fogal, Candidate for Wards 3&4 Regional Councillor:I would like to get some information regarding the process to have traffic slowing speed bumps or the lane marker posts installed. The speed of the traffic on Miller between Argyll and Eaton is dangerous. It is a straight away and many vehicles travel much over the speed limit, right in front of the Sacre Coeur elementary school. There are also bike lanes so young riders are alongside drivers at dangerous speeds. Eaton has speed bumps, Barber has the lane posts. Miller is an access route to both of those roads. I look forward to hearing if there is anything you can do to correct this very dangerous situation. Response from Town Staff:This section of Miller Drive will be signed as a Community Safety Zone in 2023. In conjunction with this work, Sacre Coeur elementary school is part of the School Zone Traffic Calming program and as such flexible bollards will be installed within the school area in the spring of 2023. Within the next couple of weeks, staff will deploy the Radar Messaging Board to educate both residents and motorists of their actual operating speeds. |

Candidate and Third-Party Advertiser Information SessionRegistered candidates and individuals interested in running in the upcoming municipal election are encouraged to register for a virtual information session taking place on August 9, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. Designed for anyone considering the position of Mayor, Regional or Local Councillor, and English or French School Board Trustee, the information session provides an overview of campaign finance rules, legislative requirements, voting methods and the election sign by-law. To register for the virtual information session please email the Clerks department. So You Want to Run for CouncilIndividuals who are considering running for the role of Mayor, Regional Chair, Local or Regional Councillor in any of the Halton Region municipalities this October are invited to register for a virtual information session led by Fred Dean, municipal coach and former municipal solicitor with extensive experience. The session will provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of regional and municipal council members including duties, scope, and commitments. Individuals who were not able to attend can watch a recording of the session. |
Election Sign By-Law |
The Town of Halton Hills' Election Sign By-Law (By-Law No. 2021-0064) is a by-law to manage and regulate election signs in the Town of Halton Hills. The registered third party, or the candidate, to whom an election sign relates shall be responsible for the erection and display of the election sign and shall ensure that all the requirements of this by-law are met. Cost for Election Sign Permit is $100.00. Methods of payment accepted are cash, debit or certified cheque. |

The Town of Halton Hills' Use of Corporate Resources during an Election Year Policy (PLCY-2022-0001) is a policy to ensure compliance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 by clarifying for candidates, current members of Council and Town staff the legislative requirements relating to campaign finances. |
